ARTIST STATEMENT

Melissa Bob, a Lummi tribal member, is studying printmaking and American Indian studies at the Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington. She is one of three daughters of Jeff and Valerie Bob.

Ms Bob was introduced to printmaking in September 2001 at Occidental College in Los Angeles. Her piece titled "The Island and Me" was chosen for the Transforming Traditions exhibition at the Whatcom Museum of History & Art in June 2002. It was the final project for her Introduction to Printmaking class.

At Evergreen, Melissa has the pleasure of working with printmaker extraordinaire Joe Fedderson, a Colville tribal member. She has also developed an interest in both contemporary and traditional Native art. After she earns her Bachelor's of Fine Art, she will attend graduate school to obtain her Master's of Fine Art.
