My birthplace is on the Pine Ridge Reservation, which is very close to the Badlands, in South Dakota. I remember seeing several buffalo bone chokers, while attending the Sturgis Bike Rally, located in South Dakota. I remember thinking to myself how much I wanted to learn how to make these same type chokers and that it couldn't be that difficult to do. It wasn't until several years later that the opportunities to create and design my own buffalo bone chokers, as well as other native Indian artifacts, became a reality for me. My mentor, Billy Stewart, allowed me to work beside him as he showed me the proper techniques of putting together such a natural, elegant-looking choker. I enjoy expressing my artistic energy into the buffalo bone chokers that I carefully and, selectively create. I believe that each choker that I create brings a sense of balance, stability, and calmness to the wearer.
