Having spent many years on the Pow Wow trail
and the Canoe trail, I learned the retail business by setting up & selling
my wares. A long time ago I learned to make traditional shawls because of
the demand. Then too there were the Salish shawls, mostly for give
aways.
Later I started to dance with the round drum Pow Wows, which necessitated
my need to make Regalia. I wasn't happy just making traditional gear for
myself & others. I had to know how to make Jingle, Fancy, Grass,
etc.
The reason I started selling beading supplies on the trail is because
I had so much left over after I made something. I started ordering extra
and a diversity of supplies and got into business full time.
In 1991 I went to North West Indian College for a business degree.
At that time I learned to make traditional Salish cedar baskets. My elders
had taught me something about baskets but I never got serious until I went
to NWIC.
At the present time I teach Beading at NWIC. The student can do the
type of beading they want: loom, applique, peyote, or what they desire.
Hope this will give the reader some idea of what I do.
